EFFICIENT SEARCHING SEMINAR REPORT

                                                            ABSTRACT

Efficient search enables increased accuracy of search results by using additional syntax to focus the search. One or more search criteria or operators can be combined in order to tailor the results more specifically towards our needs. These operators allow us to get what we are looking for, quickly and accurately. For Search Engine Optimizer’s (SEO’s), advanced search operators are essential if we want to ‘peek under the hood’ by doing a much deeper and more accurate web searches.

Web search engine which is often used by us is Google. This search engine strives to make it easy to find whatever we are seeking, whether it’s a web page, a news article, a definition, or something to buy. After we enter a query, Google returns a results list ordered by what it considers the items’ relevance to our query, listing the best match first. (Sponsored links may appear above and to the right of the search results). This part of Google Guide describes what appears on a results page and how to evaluate what we find so we will be better able to determine if a page includes the information we are seeking or links to it. Google started by providing generalized web search. Google now provides tools and shortcuts for finding commonly sought utilities and information, which we may have previously found offline or on specialized sites, e.g., telephone numbers, street maps, local restaurants and businesses, financial information, travel conditions, package tracking information, weather, currency conversions and other calculations. This part describes some of Google’s specialized search tools.

Here we will get to know how effectively we can search anything, exactly what we want by using perfect keywords to get a better result.

INTRODUCTION

Web is the most appropriate medium to use and to find the information. There are hundreds of millions of pages available, to present information on an amazing variety of topics. When we need to know about a particular subject, how do we know which pages to read? The best and fastest way to find information is a Web search. There are several very useful techniques for finding the most reliable information available on web. Most internet searches are conducted using a tool called a search engine. Internet search engines are special sites on the Web that are designed to help people find information stored on other sites. There are many search engines and many are good at searching for one kind of information but not another. The more powerful search engines, like Google, AltaVista and Yahoo!, are quite versatile. Regardless of the search engine we prefer, there are some methods of refining searches that are common to most engines. There are also techniques that are unique to the particular search engine we are using so we can't assume that the information presented here will always provide the most efficient search. This will provide various techniques related to searching for information on the engine that we are using.

CONCLUSION

This report tells us about search engines. It helps in locating the things or information which we are looking for in the virtual world i.e. WWW. The information may consist of web pages, images, information and other type’s offices. Some search engines also mine data available in databases or open directories. Unlike web directories, which are maintained by human editors, search engines operate algorithmically or are a mixture of algorithmic and human input.
